What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is many things to many people. To some, it’s a form of exercise.  To others, it’s a lifestyle.  To us, here at CrossFit Breakout, it’s a community of people dedicated to improving your life while you Shatter Your Limits.

The easiest way to explain CrossFit is by using the common definition that the CrossFit community has developed over the years:

“Constantly varied, functional movements, performed at high intensity in order to increase work capacity over broad time and modal domains.”

Constantly Varied
Every day that you come in, you will be faced with new and different challenges.  This causes muscle confusion, which helps to promote faster gains and constant improvement.

This does NOT mean that the workouts are random.  At CrossFit Breakout, our WODs are planned in advance; they are focused, disciplined, and effective in helping you reach your goals.

Functional Movements
Each movement you learn will transfer into your everyday life. The focus of every WOD is on your larger muscle groups, which you actually use to move and operate throughout the day.  The two main goals of CrossFit are to prepare you for the unexpected in life and to increase the quality of your life.

Performed at High Intensity
The workouts are short, but they are intense.  Ever heard of the saying “You’ll feel it tomorrow!”? Using the formula for power (Weight x Distance / Time), CrossFit provides customized workouts to maximize your power output in a short period of time. Fast and effective – you can get the workout of your life EVERY time you come to the box.

Increase Work Capacity Over Broad Time and Modal Domains
Improvement is the key here. You want results. Everything before this was the HOW.  Now here’s the WHY.  CrossFit’s goal is to improve your ability to perform in a variety of situations and increase your overall, endurance. Translation: do more, longer – anytime, anywhere.

After reading all of this, you may be asking yourself, “Is CrossFit for me?”.  One of the last, and maybe most important, elements of CrossFit is that every single WOD can be modified (or scaled) to fit any and all levels of ability.  What this means is a new participant and a CrossFit veteran can complete the SAME workout with simple changes in load, intensity or movement.  And both can look and feel like a BEAST!
