FAQs

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit is an extremely efficient and effective way to get into world-class shape. Workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements (like jumping, running, squatting, pushing, throwing, and pulling) performed at high intensity and in a coached, group environment.

IS THIS A GYM?

Nope. We are a personalized coaching facility for fitness-minded people and athletes. You don’t pay us to use the equipment. You pay us to coach you and get results in your body and your mind. To do that, we all work out together and encourage one another. In a way, we’re like a sports team – except CrossFit is the sport of fitness.

I AM NERVOUS TO TRY CROSSFIT, BUT I STILL WANT TO TRY IT. WHAT DO I DO?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and that’s why we have our free intro class and Foundations program. The cool thing is that you will be with others that either have never tried CrossFit, or are very new to all of this! We spend a lot of time teaching the elements of CrossFit so you will feel much more comfortable stepping into a regular class once you are ready!

I’M IN THE AREA. CAN I JUST DROP IN?

We love drop-in guests. Our drop-in rate is $20; or better yet, just buy a t-shirt.

I HEARD YOU CAN GET HURT DOING CROSSFIT. IS CROSSFIT DANGEROUS?

Sure – if you do it wrong! You can injure yourself in almost any activity, but CrossFit is safer than many fitness activities because workouts are done in group settings with experienced coaches.

At CrossFit Breakout, we work with people in 3 stages to ensure the safest training experience possible:

  • Stage 1: Mechanics – you learn how to do all CrossFit movements using correct technique
  • Stage 2: Consistency – you gain the ability to perform these movements over and over again with safe and efficient technique
  • Stage 3: Intensity – the speed at which you perform these movements progressively increases
I’VE HEARD CROSSFIT IS REALLY HARD. IS THAT TRUE?

Greatness doesn’t come easy. But you’re not paying for easy.

Does your workout right now leave you so gassed at the end that you have to lay down just to catch your breath? CrossFit will knock you flat. But don’t let that scare you! It doesn’t mean you start at the hardest level. You start wherever you SHOULD start – and we’re here to help you find that perfect starting point. If you can only deadlift 50 pounds safely, then that’s where we start. And then we help you get stronger. Got a real pull-up? Great, we’ll show you how to do more. Haven’t done a pull-up since 3rd grade? Even better. In our Breakout community, you’ll learn how to build strength and develop an efficient, functional body…and have fun while doing it!

DO YOU OFFER PERSONAL TRAINING?

Yes. We offer a variety of training options, including small group sessions and one on one training. Our coaches are also experienced in sports and athletic training, rehabilitation training, body comp training, and Olympic lifting.

CROSSFIT SEEMS EXPENSIVE. WHY?

At CrossFit Breakout, you receive individual attention during every WOD from experienced personal trainers (coaches). Our coaches offer instruction on movements and proper form, modify or scale the workout to fit your personal needs, and provide advice, suggestions and feedback during your workout. You receive constant encouragement and support from your Breakout family and gain the knowledge and experience you need to improve your lifestyle.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER I JOIN?

First, expect to be greeted by our Breakout family with open arms! We LOVE to welcome new members into our growing family and can’t wait for you to join us. Second, expect to learn something new every day. Our workouts are ALWAYS different and we coach you through every WOD to ensure you are learning and using proper technique and constantly improving. Finally, expect to have fun. The goal is to make sure you enjoy your journey to becoming a better YOU and that you have FUN while you Shatter Your Limits.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROSSFIT AND BODY BUILDING? (I’M WORRIED I’LL GET BULKY DOING CROSSFIT.)

CrossFit is a training program focused on the entire body, that increases your overall work capacity and fitness endurance. A typical result is a more well-defined body…but you won’t become bulky from doing CrossFit because, unlike body building, CrossFit WODs are designed to engage your entire body in performing cardio, strength, and mobility movements. Body building, on the other hand, isolates and focuses on specific muscles at a specific angles for specific lengths of time.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS I SHOULD LOOK FOR IN A HIGH QUALITY CROSSFIT BOX? (HOW DO I PICK THE RIGHT CROSSFIT BOX?)

Finding a CrossFit box that is perfect for you (and that you are perfect for) is the best way to keep staying fit for a lifetime.  You will want to visit several Cross Fit boxes to see what the coaches, programming, and community are like.  Right away you will notice a wide variety of coaching styles, intensity, programming, equipment, cleanliness and most of all community.  Here are a few, key things to look for and ask as you visit each CrossFit box:

1) Coach Experience and Certifications: At the very least, make sure ALL coaches are Level 1 Certified in CrossFit. Even better — ask if they have multiple certifications across CrossFit domains, such a Olympic weightlifting, nutrition, mobility and recovery, endurance, among others. This is a sign that the box invests in ongoing education for its coaches, and that ALL coaches have a well-rounded base of knowledge.

2) A Focus on CrossFit: Is it a CrossFit-only “gym”?  Some “gyms” offer CrossFit classes as part of their larger repertoire in addition to other fitness programs like yoga and kick boxing. As a general rule, you might be better off going with a box where CrossFit is a priority so you know you’re getting focused, knowledgeable training from legitimate CrossFit coaches.

3) Safety:  Are the coaches offering one-on-one instruction before, during AND after the WOD? Does the box offer an “on-ramp” or CrossFit “foundations” course for new members? You will want to make sure there is a focus on safety at all stages, from warm-up and strength, to the actual workout and cool-down.

Come for the coaching…Stay for the community!
